Miniature Park in a Terrarium

This miniature park in a terrarium was fun to make. And a little challenging. Only one side of the terrarium opened, so we had to carefully remove the other side. It is not easy to place things when you can only reach in from the top.

The grass is made from a washrag painted with different shades of green.

My original plan was to put a pond in it. I made this from cardstock. I put a picture of water on the bottom and printed out the fish and cut each one out using a magnifying glass and tiny nail scissors. The water lilies are printed and cut out. The grass is artificial. I mixed the resin and put it in it but it never got hard. I guess I didn’t mix it right.

So I made a fountain from seashells with hot glue for the water. Flowers have been blown into the water from the nearby tree.

I had some black wire trees that I had gotten at Halloween to make a Pink Dogwood tree. I used a flower punch to make the flowers and used colored pencils to color the white markings on the edges of the flowers and the yellow centers. I used a small Phillips screwdriver to curl the flowers. Then I glued each flower on individually. That took a lot of time. I punched out some leaves to add to it.

The bench was from a fairy garden set I had purchased. The lamp was purchased at Christmas time. I used a straw to make the pole for it to sit on. The base was a piece of cardstock. The flowers were made using flower punches. The stepping stones were artificial flowers.

This project taught me that things don’t always go as smoothly as we would like and we have to be willing to change our minds about decorations.
