The Miniature Snow Dragon was a project that I made for my son. Another big project that I jumped into without knowing what I was doing. lol!
He has always been very attracted to dragons, and I found a dragon at Michael’s that spoke to me. I decided to make a snowy mountain, with a cave where he was keeping his treasures. Some gnomes were trying to steal the treasure and he was freezing them. I chose gnomes because he can’t stand the ones I have everywhere.
I started with a bunch of styrofoam. I glued them together and began shaping them into some semblance of part of a mountain and carved a cave into it. I used scraps to build out the sides. I used a sheet of foamboard for the base.
You can’t have a Snow Dragon without snow. I covered everything with a mixture of glue and baking soda. This also served the purpose of making the outside hard to protect it from damage. I had a box of tiny tumbled crystals my son had brought me when he was a child for the treasure. I glued them all into place so they would not shift.
Of course, there had to be a river nearby. The dragon is held up by a wire going to his mouth, then covered by hot glue to form the ice he was shooting out. Some of the poor gnomes have already been frozen and one is in the process.
I added gold glitter to the treasure to look like gold. I thought the polar bears were cute but my son informed me they were from the wrong hemisphere. Oh, well!
Of course, he loved it and still treasures it.
