A Plantation Dollhouse and Antebellum Bed Frame

The Worthington No 136 - Forest Fairy Miniatures

I got my first dollhouse! I am so excited. I found it on Facebook Marketplace for $45! I couldn’t believe it. I seldom saw any in my area and they were all very expensive. It is 5′ long,  2′ deep, and 3′ tall. I’m going to make it into a Southern Plantation that is haunted. I’m going to try to be as authentic as possible.

I was looking for something to put it on and everything was very expensive. I found a solid wood tv table on rollers that is 4′ long on FB Marketplace for $20! I love it when things just fall into place! We will have to put some plywood on top to make it big enough for the house and some yard. Hopefully, we will be able to set that up this week.

And look at all that storage under it! I will definitely be able to use that! There are also shelves on each end. It is perfect!

I have not even seen the inside of the house because we had to just put it somewhere out of the way for the moment. I was able to reach in with a measuring tape to see how tall the bedroom is so I could design an Antebellum bed for it. After getting the design the way I wanted it I cut it out of thick chipboard with my Cricut Maker.

After I got it put together and started painting it, the headboard broke loose from the side pieces because it is so top-heavy. It was definitely easier to paint in pieces. lol!

A lot of the furniture back then had a varnish that was reddish-brown. I did my best to recreate that look by mixing brown and red paint. I think it worked out really well. I did several coats and sanded it between to get it as smooth as possible.

The mattress is made from padded envelopes. I was trying to make it look like a feather bed. It will be covered with sheets and a bedspread once I figure out the color and get the material. I will also need material for the curtains that go around the bed. They will connect to the inside of the top.

They used a lot of pastel colors back then. I can’t decide between pink, blue, green or yellow. I may have to write the colors on pieces of paper and choose one. lol!

I’m very happy with how it turned out. The one I make for the other bedroom will be more masculine.
